Discussions of theories beyond the SM - Schmelzer - 05-14-2016

This subforum is for the discussion of the mainstream proposals for theories beyond the SM, as well as mainstream approaches to quantization of gravity.

In some sense one can think of strings, superpartners of existing particles, or the bosons added by GUTs as hidden variables too.  Up to now, we have no way to observe them.  But this would be playing around with words.  That to name the "hidden variables" "hidden" can be criticized for a lot of reasons anyway.  I would consider "hidden variables" simply as a name for a group of theories of physics which have been excluded from the mainstream for some ideological reasons.  In this sense, this subforum is simply for those theories which are preferred, instead, by the mainstream.
